At just over 6,000 words, The Gatekeeper’s Cottage is lovely little work of taboo erotic fiction.
What Drew Me In
While poking around for taboo erotica books to read, I came across the Gatekeeper’s Cottage. The first thing that caught my eye was the cover.
While sultry photo-amalgamations are by far the norm for romance and erotica novel covers, I’m usually drawn to and prefer an illustrated cover that some artist poured their blood, sweat, and tears into.
The second thing that caught my attention was the subject matter. Brother-sister incest; tried and true.
What I Loved About It
There are a lot of bad erotica writers out there. Bianca Swan is not one of them. In fact, I was immensely impressed by the quality of her work. Despite the short work of fiction, she was able to bring the sights, sounds, and sensations to life, in a fluid, if not poetic manner.
The scenes were colorful; the mood was set. As soon as I got started, I got the sense I was reading the opening chapter of what could have been a much longer erotic epic. In fact, I kept glancing down at the page numbers as they ticked by, wondering if there wasn’t something wrong with my app. Surely there were more pages left than what my Kindle would have me believe?
Short as it was, it was sweet. The heat builds as the story progresses, and upon it’s crescendo, you’re reminded that you’re not reading smut, but a literary work written by an artist who truly cares about her craft.
What Could Have Been Better
In all honesty, I truly enjoyed The Gatekeeper’s Cottage. If I had any complaints, it would be that like most erotic stories, it was too short. I wanted more! I was just getting invested in the characters, when the story ends. That said, it was a joy to read, and I fully intend to read the rest of Bianca Swan’s work.
Anastasia’s Parlor Rating
I give The Gatekeeper’s Cottage five stars for it’s elegance and re-readability. It’s a cozy little bedtime story that’s sure to get the blood flowing and leave you wanting more.
Bianca has a great blog which you can check out here.
